Out and About in Dunning and Nearby

Glebe House is beautifully nestled into the centre of Dunning, a picturesque, conservation village in the heart of Perthshire.

The village, so close to the main north/south route, is less than one hour drive from Edinburgh, Glasgow and Pitlochry and less than fifteen minutes from Perth city centre.  It is ideally located for exploring this beautiful corner of Scotland taking in so many historic sites, amazing scenery and wonderful hospitality.  With Gleneagles hotel just nearby this is an ideal place to stay.

Dunning is a vibrant, conservation village steeped in history. Here you will find:

- The 13th century St.Serf’s church that is also home to the 8th century Dupplin Cross

- A surviving portion of a roman encampment

- A monument to Maggie Walls who was burnt at the stake as a witch in 1657

- The sole surviving house of the Jacobean torching of Dunning in 1716, the “Straw House”

Dunning is at a crossroads for discovering the beauty of Perthshire - see the blog!

Woodland Walks

At the edge of the village is an attractive ancient wood with a roman site that offers an easy, one kilometre circular walk.

Other local walks are through the lovely Pitcairn Den with its bluebell wood and pretty burn, or a climb up Craig Rossie where you will enjoy the stunning Perthshire scenery.

Golf

Glebe House is an ideal base if your interest is in golf. Why not play at the village’s popular nine hole golf course (our guests have a special discount on green fees) or take a short drive and play at the world-famous Gleneagles Hotel course, home to 2014 Ryder Cup and only 15 minutes away.  There are plenty of attractive courses nearby such as CrieffAuchterarder, Callander and Comrie.

Easily accessible to many attractions

Dunning is ideally situated for you to enjoy the many wider activities in Perthshire including historic castles and whisky distilleries as well as fishing, cycling, horse-riding and white water rafting.

Equally enjoyable is award winning chocolate tasting or a visit to the Dundee V&A.

There are plenty of beautiful gardens nearby including the spectacular Drummond Castle Gardens and Branklyn Gardens
