Out and About Dunning
Glebe House is beautifully nestled into the centre of Dunning, a picturesque, conservation village in the heart of Perthshire. Less than one hour drive from Edinburgh and Glasgow and less than fifteen minutes from Perth city centre you will find us ideally located for exploring this beautiful corner of Scotland. With Gleneagles hotel, Strathallan and Kilgraston Colleges just nearby this is an ideal place to stay.
Dunning is steeped in history. Here you will find:
- The 13th century St.Serf’s church that is also home to the 8th century Dupplin Cross
- A surviving portion of a roman encampment
- A monument to Maggie Walls who was burnt at the stake as a witch in 1657
- The sole surviving house of the Jacobean torching of Dunning in 1716, the “Straw House”
Dunning is at a crossroads for discovering the beauty of Perthshire - see the blog!
At the edge of the village is an attractive ancient wood with a roman site that offers an easy, one kilometre circular walk. Other local walks are through the lovely Pitcairn Den with its bluebell wood and pretty burn, or a climb up Craig Rossie where you will enjoy the stunning Perthshire scenery.
Glebe House is an ideal base if your interest is in golf. Why not play at the village’s popular nine hole golf course (our guests have a special discount on green fees) or take a short drive and play at the world-famous Gleneagles Hotel course, home to 2014 Ryder Cup and only 15 minutes away. There are plenty of attractive courses nearby such as Crieff, Callander and Comrie.
Dunning is ideally situated for you to enjoy the many wider activities in Perthshire such as fishing, cycling, horse-riding, white water rafting, land rover experience safaris as well as historic attractions and whisky distilleries. There are plenty of beautiful gardens nearby including the spectacular Drummond Castle Gardens.
At its heart, Dunning is a vibrant village with golf, tennis, children's play areas, shops and businesses including two popular pub restaurants loved by locals and visitors alike.
