Afternoon Tea - the versatile meal

By 6th June 2017

Tea time treats for everyone

Don't you think that there's nothing more welcoming that a pot of piping hot, aromatic tea and a selection of little cakes and biscuits just freshly made by your host?

That's why I always offer all our guests exactly that on their arrival and also, because it's their holiday after all, on any afternoon of their stay that they wish.  I like variety and always use, as much as possible, my own home grown/made or Dunning village produce.  Of course that's always changing, letting me offer different treats to go along with the popular scone, home-made jam and cream.

It's clear now that afternoon teas have become a really popular meal.  I wonder if that's because they're informal, great for both an intimate couple and equally for an excited group of friends.

This week I was asked to provide a lunch cum afternoon tea for a businessman who was entertaining special guests - led by no other than Grant Harold, the Royal Butler who gives advice to clients on how to serve afternoon tea.  No pressure then!!  We served it on the patio and the sun shone and there was plenty of business and informal getting to know over blinis, salads, tarts, scones, meringues, cakes and lots of fruit.  So, good for business too!

That's what I love about afternoon tea - it's so versatile.

Our guests enjoy a selection of home-baked sweet treats in their lounge or patio as part of their stay at Glebe House and non residents take a full savoury and sweet selection in the public areas.

Time for tea I think.
